My Emmy nomination

Hello Everyone!

Forgive me for being a bit late in talking to all of you personally. The press can be a jealous mistress. :) But, yes, to confirm the good rumors (is there such a thing?), yes - I have been nominated for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. The show for which I have been nominated is, of course, Burn Notice. One of the press interviews I gave looked it up and informed me that this is my 10th nomination. Wow. Even I was stunned. I am glad someone out there is keeping score. :)

The only thing that makes this news a bit bitter-sweet is that mine was the only nomination for Burn Notice. We are in our 4th year and always seemed to be overlooked by the Academy. Not only the show, but my fellow actors, producers, directors, crew, etc. have been so deserving for so long. But I like to think that this nomination finally opens the door for Burn Notice to be, well, noticed.

I am the dark horse in the race, to be sure. But it is an honor to be listed with my fellow nominees. It is a very impressive group of women.

The hardest part is figuring out what to wear.

I send you my love and my gratitude for all your support over the years.

Always, Sharon

  2. I know you are busy and probably not up on all of the talk from your fans from online groups like Facebook.....but you are well loved for all of your roles, to include Burn Notice.
10 nominations is kind of incredible. You have fans from age 12 to 100 ALL OVER THE WORLD. People can spot quality acting when they see it....well, not always, maybe most of the time.
We are all rooting for you Ms. Sharon.
    Fondly,
    Kel

  8. Congratulations on the so well deserved Emmy nomination!
10 isn't enough for the wonderful work you have done all these years, you should have at least one more for Debbie.
Love your work, I remember as a teen I never missed a C&L episode, and I can't wait for the rest of the DVD to be release, so I can add them to the rest of my collection.
Any news if Rosie O'Neill will ever be on DVD?
Anyway, crossing fingers on the Emmy' night, will be rooting for you.
PS - Love the scene between Madeline and the congressman in the last episode of Burn notice.
    much love from Portugal.

  9. Dear Sharon,
    that's great! The 10th nomination - respect!
That is the reward for hard work.
Actor is not just a job - that's life for the profession.
"The artist creates not for the forgotten, he gives his heart and soul to his work so that it remains in memory."
At the moment there are memories for me day by day, film to film. I have to catch as much of Cagney & Lacey ... Nip / Tuck ... Burne Notice, The State Within, and all the others, and a bit frightening film Revenge of the Stepford wifes (a bit scary but Sharon / Kay Foster is a dream) before me is still a lot of work, the visual and listening pleasure.

But now the Nomminierung is coming ...
Good luck and great praise, Sharon, and what you wear will also look great.

    With best wishes.

  14. Hey Sharon:

Way to go on another emmy. I have been a fan of yours ever since you joined the C&L cast in 1981 or 82 I'm not sure. I watched you in an episode of burn notice in Jan of this year when the guest star was your C&L collgue tyne daly, it was like watching C&L all over again, it was like you never left that's how great the two of you were. I hope you win the Emmy award because you deserve it.

  25. Dear Sharon,

jah, a pity that you did not get an Emmy. You'd really deserve it!
But hey, the 10th nomination, but after all, is the step on the red carpet
remain the less well-known stars is a dream.

And for a star like Sharon Gless, who also still as breathtaking in the sun's LA. With a smile like a warm ray of sunshine and a ray in the blue eyes ... and of good health.
A dream in white. (I've already thought of me ... in white). Really adorable!
Do not be sad, the next prize is yours!

With warm regards from cold Germany.

  26. Sharon,
Been a huge fan of yours since way before C&L and was rooting for you to win the Emmy for Burn Notice. Wish I could have seen you in SF earlier this year since I only live about 4 hrs from there but have been going through treatment for stage 4 breast cancer for almost 3 yrs and couldn't make it.
Just wanted to let you know how much you've meant to me over the years.
    Thanks, Cheryl

  27. Sharon, you looked so beautiful on the Red Carpet. I was so happy that you mentioned Jeffrey Donovan. Yes he is totally hot. He makes me want to go to Miami
My only complaint about Burn Notice is 'your' smoking. I try to pretend that they aren't real cigarettes. They need to slap a patch on your arm in an episode. It makes me crazy. Otherwise, I would rate the show a 10, it's a 9 while they are making 'you' smoke.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hey Sharon, Don't know if you actually read any of your comments but I'd just like to say I used to love Cagney and Lacey when I was a child (still do). It was that show originally which fuelled my ambition to visit New York (to meet Cagney and Lacey lol) I have been loads, also visited other parts and love the USA. I visit as often as I can and hope to one day, also, achieve my dream of meeting Cagney and Lacey. Take care, from a long time fan, Ruth

  29. Congratulations Sharon! This is a bit later than when you were nominated however, your talent continues to shine. I have never seen Burn Notice but in your Cagney years no-one could touch you. The emotional content you put into your performances is exemplary. Every part you act shows real depth and I love the honesty you put into the characters. You strive to really connect with every character you play. Cagney will always be my favourite though because your comedy and tragedy were equally portrayed with utmost genius. I love you!! Take Care and thankyou for caring about your audience. Cher (Liverpool)xxx

  30. I've just started watching "Burn Notice" here in Canada on Showcase (always a bit behind). Love you on this show - looks like it must have been fun to make. All those good-lookin' guys? Hmmm...gotta luv it! You DESERVE an award!

  31. Well, first of all Sharon, speaking of past history, "Cagney and Lacey was one of my favorite tv programs and I am glad season one is on dvd-I hope they put the rest of the seasons on dvd.
Ok- now about Burn Notice- I never heard of it. But I went on the internet and read what it was about on Wikapedia. It sounds like a program that a lot of people should find very interesting. I am a poor gal from Covington Ky, I live in an apartment complex for people 55and up and I only get I think it's 56 channels on my Satellite tv. Ok but let me check it out to see if I can get Burn Notice on tv.

    I would probably like it.

  32. Hi Sharon, I was thinking recently, how much you add to BURN NOTICE. (I've always been ahead of my time) It seems everyone else figured it out before me. You do add the sauce and deserve an Emmy.
I love that chain smoking and I don't smoke. All the best.

  35. Hi Sharon!! First I would like to extend my very belated congratulations on your Emmy nomination (I hope you won, you deserve it!) Second, I have been a fan you Cagney and Lacey and of yourself since the beginning. Some years back I attended a marathon screening of the show. I don't recall which year it was, however, a screening was held in several cities nationwide to help determine which episode would be submitted for nomination for the Emmy...( ask Barney if he remembers that) I was more than happy to stay up all those hours to be involved in such a momentous occasion! Back then I could stay up that many hours and not feel too shabby afterward...lol. I would also like to take this opportunity for lending your support for the "gay and lesbian" community! We need all the support we can get...especially here in Maine where gay marriage was repealed...the governer actually signed it into law, but thanks to a "special interest group" and the voters up here, it got repealed, but we are going for it again next election. I am so happy I found this site, and so happy that you are who you are, simply fantastic!!!
Patty Raroha, a fan in Maine

  36. Dear Mrs. Sharon & Mrs. Tyne,
My name is Tonya. I am 37 years old and I live in a small town in Alabama (Roll Tide).
I have been a huge fan since the very first episode of Cagney & Lacey.
Recently I had the pleasure of seeing you together again on the tv screen and boy have I missed you!!
Christine's contageous laugh and dimpled grin along with Mary Beth's overall charm....oh yes, I have missed you both!!
Cagney and Lacey was more than just a television show. It was real and it was honest and it was because of the both of you. I remember watching and thinking "Man, I should be so lucky to find a friend and partner and have a relationship like the two of you have."
Rather than ramble on like a star struck fan, I just want to tell you that you are both amazing and have touched my life through your work in television. If I were granted three wishes, one of them would most definitely be to have the opportunity to meet both of you fabulous ladies!! But since that won't ever happen I will continue to see you the only way I can...through my television set. I have the first season on dvd and have just recently ordered the "Menopause Years" on dvd.
Thank you both again for just being the beautiful people that you are.
Much love to you from a forever dedicated fan!!!
    Always,
    Tonya
P.S. YOU BOTH ROCK!!!!!:) Please please please release the other seasons on DVD.

  37. you are one fantastic actress i remember when i watch queer as folk and found out you played Debbie I couldn't believe it was you. from one of your gay fans, Hun you look great as a red head move over Lucky. the one scene where you go to the policemen s ball with Emmet you looked hot lady lol... You do know you made the show right. Way back Cagney & Lacey they dont make shows like that anymore. I wish you all my best (((HUGS)) Chas. in Portland Or.

  38. Have enjoyed your work since the early days of C&L. Watched every episode, and now reliving those days via Netflix.Where does the time go? I'm still only 29! (ya, right -- am officially going to be a speed limit this year). Awesome job as the rambunctious Debbie on QAF, and Burn Notice as well. It isn't difficult to see someone who truly loves what they do, and puts their whole self into their work. That's what separates the mediocre from the phenomenal, and you, my dear are incredible -- a very real, genuine, and sincere person. Thank you for all your hard work. We, your loyal fans adore you. Have you considered doing any more stage work? Would be an honor to see you in New York or Rhode Island (Rhode Island had an excellent theater district a few blocks from Brown University). Wishing you good health and happiness down whichever road your life leads you.
    Thank you,
    Laurie M.

    Laurie - thanks so much!

You may not be aware that Sharon has just finished a run of Jane Prowse's play "A Round-Heeled Woman" (in Miami). It had been extended to 6 February 2011, due to popular demand.

For news of any further productions keep an eye on the play's website at www.aroundheeledwoman.com and/or facebook page (called Sharon Gless stars in A Round-Heeled Woman : The Play).

    Again, many thanks.

  40. I am very much aware of " A Round Heeled Woman" playing in Miami, and I would have loved to have seen it; however, I live in New England ( aka, The North Pole right now), and there is 4 ft. of snow on the ground. Spent the night on an army cot at Logan Airport ( had vacation plans in the South Pacific)after all flights were cancelled day after Christmas due to a blizzard. No trains or taxis running back to Rhode Island, so there were about 70 passengers, including myself that were stuck there -- not a pleasant experience.Very difficult to get a flight out of this frozen tundra at the moment, and weather has been very irratic.
Should Ms. Gless be performing again later in the year, I
would definitely make the effort to attend. It would be an
honor to be there! Thanks :)

  41. Ever since my son, who is now 19 got me hooked on Burn Notice it kept bringing back memories of Cagney and Lacey. My all time favorite show. I have it in my Netflicks Que now and have started from the beginning and I am on Season 4. I love them even more the second time around. You are a fantastic person and a fantastic actress and I am not surprised that this is your 10th Emmy nomination. I do hope that Burn Notice will be recognized more in the future. I am glad that Michael Weston is one of my sons heroes, just like you were one of mine.

  45. My first time commenting on a blog, and the honor goes to... ;)
I just completed viewing all the Cagney and Lacey series and movies through netflix. What an adventure, i remembered a lot of the content, the main characters and particularly addressing alcoholism and the rape. It was such an experience going back in time and realizing the profound and timely messages delivered through such amazing acting and wonder how much the show actually had an effect on viewers, surelly many women felt empowered. And just love that yellow sweater with the colored squigly lines--wonder where that came from, i want one :D -- I'm a returning student, now in grad school, I used the series as a reward after reading research and class material, i needed it!!! It got me through for several weeks. As an addiction counselor i appreciated how the progression on alcohol dependence was presented. such a rich series. Thank you for so many hours of enjoyable smart entertainment with meaning, so precious!

  48. Ms. Gless,

I just watched the Burn Notice episode "Bloodlines", and I must say something that I rarely say about television episodes: It moved me to the core. Your acting, and your co-stars acting, is just phenomenal. I am glad to see that, after five great seasons, the show is still going strong... That new episode has to be one of my favorite Burn Notice episodes to date.

I was introduced to your work by Burn Notice. Now I am looking forward to familiarising myself with some of your earlier work.

Please keep up the wonderful work!

    Best regards,

  50. To echo what others have written, you are an amazing and talented actress, Ms. Gless-Rosensweig. As your time permits, I hope you will continue to keep up your blog.

In 1994, I remember (somehow) contacting Rosensweig Productions on behalf of a dear friend who was dying of brain cancer and her fondest wish was to watch C&L episodes one last time. One of your assistants contacted me about that. SO CLASSY and a credit to you and your staff. Sadly my friend passed away a couple of days later, but I remain impressed by you and your staff. Thank you !! Best wishes always.
