  1. Sharon,

How wonderful to wake up this morning and see the message from Carole to the C&L Yahoo Group regarding the launch of this site! It's been a long-time coming and you know we are all so happy about it!

Can it really be 25 years? When I see a picture of me at 15 in January '81 and then look at the almost 41 year old woman staring back at me from the mirror today - I can honestly say, YEP, 25 YEARS!

When my own daughter was 10 years old and fanatical about the Spice Girls, I told her "Charlies Angels" were my Spice Girls when I was 10 (we all wanted to be Farrah). I recognized Barney's name from his days with the "Angels" and that's what made keen to watch "Cagney and Lacey" from the beginning. As a teen with dreams of writing for television, I was just blown away - by the scripts, the acting, the whole C&L package. To this day, I've yet to see the on-screen "chemistry" you and Tyne had duplicated on television. Nor have women been portrayed with such depth. It has never felt the torch was passed on and that is truly unfortunate.

The way you all reached out to fans made the show that much more special to me. As a kid I loved receiving the newsletters and autographed photos. Several years ago, I sent a note to you when you were starring in a play in Chicago, saying that I missed seeing you on television and thanking you and "Cagney and Lacey" for being "responsible" for meeting one of my very best friends (over 20 years of friendship for Karen and I now - a woman who can make me laugh so hard when we're together I have actually had to stop the car and get out to relieve the cramp in my side!) You were kind enough to send a more recent photo and a note thanking me for the letter - so here's a thank you in return.

And a big thank you to you, Barney and Tyne for bringing such a special show to television. I look forward to exploring this site, the release of the DVDs and, of course, the publication of CAGNEY, LACEY & ME.

    Kristy

  2. What a pleasant surprise to come home to from a long day at work to an email from Gail telling me about this site.

I miss seeing your work on TV Sharon! C&L is still the best series I was happy to watch. It was fun looking at the photos and I remember that day you got your "star". Thank you for all that you have done.

I will be back to enjoy more of this great web site!

  3. Sharon...

I have posted the majority of my comments on Barney's blog because he and I have been "corresponding" via email for a few years now regarding the dvd release. But, I did want to say to you that I have admired and respected your talent from back in the days of "Marcus Welby" and "Switch." You have a true uniqueness in that you have both a comedic and dramatic flair and can blend them together so effortlessly that it just becomes so much fun to watch you on the screen. Thanks for many hours of enjoyment!

Congratulations on the 25th anniversary of C&L...cheers to the very best show on television!

    Best Wishes,

    Melissa

  4. Hi Sharon,

I'm so thrilled that we now have a Cagney and Lacey website and also to hear from you! I've been a fan of yours for many years and I started watching Cagney and Lacey at the ripe old age of 11 (I'm 36 now!) Since Cagney and Lacey finished I've followed your careeer and recently enjoyed watching you in The State Within. So great to see you back on UK screens!

My hope is to one day be able to meet you and thank you for being such an inspiration. I'm a member of your UK fan club so hopefully you will be back over here in the not too distant future and the oppertunity will arise! Until then I will eagerly await the release of Cagney and Lacey!

    Much Love

  5. I will NOT even embarass myself and tell you all that I did when I was a mear 11 years of age. Well, okay a little.
    1) Wallpapered my entire room with every single piece of info I could find on C&L.
    2) Faked numerous illnesses to stay home to watch Sharon and/or Tyne being interviewed on shows like Merv Griffin.
    3) Cut my hair to look like Sharon, then used a razor to try to "shape" my eyebrows too!! WOW, that is just wrong. LOL
    4) A friend "Brownie" and just couldn't accept the final episode with so many questions, so we wrote our own episode which tied up the loose ends.

Like I said, THAT is just a few things. Oh...yeah, and the day my Mom got the phone bill when I was like 12. I was calling Hollywood to try to talk to Sharon and Tyne. Didn't get too far, just a HUGE phone bill which I denied knowing about, until my mom had the operator determine just where in the country the calls were made to. She asks "Who in you family likes celebrities? It's all Hollywood California!" LOL.

In 1989, Tyne was starring in Gypsy in Boston, Mass. My friend Lisa who has Muscular Dystrophy was part of the My Own Wish program. We received complimentary tickets to the show, then we met Tyne Daly after the show where we presented her with a Shakespeare book, and she spent some very special time with Lisa and I. I will never forget that. I returned back a day later with my mom, and the agent let us in to the party following the show. My mother embarasses me by asking Tyne "How did you run so fast with Clint Eastwood?" Tyne's patient reply was "when they pay you that much, you run that fast" LOL!!

Wow, such great memories and it IS ABOUT TIME we get this awesome show on DVD. My "Italian" has been getting up just looking at all the other TV Shows that make it to DVD and yet our C&L had to wait???? GRRRRR...okay, well I am so looking forward to this, and thank you to all of you who are responsible for bringing this to life on DVD. Now I can actually throw away my first set of C&L AND my BACK UP set of C&L. (I know, can you say anal?)

THIS IS JUST AWESOME!!! I am a huge fan ever since a friend got me hooked on the show. She even started calling me Cagney because I reminded her so much of your character...stubborn and Irish.
I can't wait for the DVD to be released. I keep saying in the words of Cagney..."I would trade my Irish heritage" for Cagney and Lacey on DVD.

  7. Wow!!! Now I can blog with you!!! Well I know you probably won't write to me personally. You told me you're not very good about writing. We'll see.....

I just wanted to tell you again how much meeting you here in Omaha meant to me. Gosh it's been a year. I really enjoyed the Tennessee Monkey Trials. You were great as usual. I wish I would have thought to take a picture of you and I again. I hope you are still enjoying the picture that I gave you. I proudly display mine in my house.

I still remember the first time I saw Cagney and Lacey. It was on Monday at 9pm. Everything revolved around that on Mondays. Everyone knew not to bother me when it was on. Could it be 25 years since then? Gosh... what great memories. I was sure proud when, we the fans, saved the show. That was awesome.

Anyway, can't wait to here you here on the blog. Also, can't wait for my own copy of the DVD. I have been waiting for this since TV shows started coming out on DVD. YEAH!!!!!

    Sincerely,
    Gina

  8. Hmmmm I hope I get this right. Everything is in Spanish. Cruising in Mexico.

I'm so HAPPY! to see this sight. Not going to date myself but C&L was my favourite show growing up.
They still show it in Canada on one of those artsy fartsy channels.

Sharon where are you? What are doing? Working? New show? Theatre?
If you are bored come swim with the dolphins in Mexico!

You were my hero growing up. Such a good role model you were! Thanks so much for the autographed pic when I was 15!

    cheers

  9. Dear Sharon,

Imagine my suprise when I was reading my local paper, and read that you had visited Omaha. I am glad that you received the treatment you needed for your pneumonia. I was very glad that you were diagnosed properly here in Omaha, because the Canadian diagonosis scared me. I am sure you were floored and scared as well. As a registered nurse, and one of your #1 fans, I was proud that you came to Omaha for treatment. I hope you read my prior blog. Next time you're in Omaha, and hopefully not sick, we should get together for lunch. Hahaha!!

Take care and have a speeding recovery!!

    Sincerely,
    Gina

  10. Dear Sharon,

It was quite the jaw-dropper to read about your recent health scare. Awful for you, and unsettling for your fans. We'd love some reassurance that you're truly okay and on the mend. Wishing you the best...

  12. Sharon,
I don't even know where to start except to say that I have been a fan of Cagney and Lacey ever since you joined the show. I think that you and Tyne have such great chemistry and I love to watch you both. I miss the show so much, but thank god it is coming on DVD.
You are such a talented, attractive and smart actress that it's amazing to just watch you in anything.

It's funny cause in high school I wanted to be a cop cause you were on your show. That's how much Cagney and Lacey effected me. You and Tyne were role models to all the little girls growing up and women knowing that could make a difference. I want to thank you all for that. I know that Barney is so proud of this show like we are :o)

I will continue to be a fan of this show for it has a special place in my heart.

I look forward to catching up on watching Queer As Folk and your new miniseries on BBC.

I hope your feeling better since you had that health scare.

    Take care of yourself,
    Debbie D.

  14. Sharon - just to let you know that there are some male fans out here ! You still do it for me . ( my wife doesn't mind too much ! ) . Took me years to capture all the episodes on video . Now can't wait for the DVD's - hope we get some out-takes ? This really was one of the best TV dramas ever made - your portrayals were absolutely convincing and mesmerising to watch . God bless .

  15. I am so excited that Cagney and Lacey will be out on DVD! I was 11 when the show came out. I remember how sad I was that it was ending. I even cut out the interview/pictures in the TV guide and put them in my scrap book. I know what I am buying my mother for Mother's Day!

  17. I am so pleased to finally hear that Cagney and Lacey is coming out on dvd. I remember watching every episode of the show and not missing a single episode. You and Tyne Daly are superb actresses and tv needs more actresses with your two talents.

  18. Sharon,,

How wonderful to have you back on our screens in 'The State Within'. what a wonderful show, have already got it on DVD.

Can it really be 25yrs. I was 10 years old. I am now married with 2 children, time certainly flies. Am especially looking forward to the C&L DVDs coming out this spring (does this apply to the UK?).

Have been fortunate enough to meet you twice when you were in the UK. I hope your new production (A Round-Heeled Woman) comes to the West End this year and hopefully have the opportunity of meeting you again.

    Take care and Best Wishes

  21. Hi Sharon,
It's time to celebrate!!! Cagney & Lacey is finally going on DVD! This is fabulous, I just wish it could have happened before at least one-third of the C&L fans were menopausal, on hormones, and growing facial hair.

I was a fan of yours before Cagney & Lacey enlisted you. I always looked forward to the episodes of Switch in which you appeared (not enough). You just sparkled.

Sharon, it was you that made Christine Cagney the great character we all wanted to become. The strength, dedication, and humor you gave Cagney were infectious. Your charm and talent are immeasurable. Thanks for all the great performances. I'm looking forward to all your future ones.

You and Tyne gave all C&L fans someone to aspire to and believe in.

Also, thank you for the autographed photo you sent to me all those years ago. I wish you the very best.

    Lori

  22. Sharon, you worked with my friend Thea on QAF of course! Anyway, a few years ago she very kindly got an autographed photo of you for me. That was a great birthday present.
Uh yes, memories. In 1987 I had just moved across the country and was living on my own for the first time. I only had a borrowed black and white TV and held up the rabbit ears for the whole hour of the episode where Lacey confronted Cagney about her alcoholism. A month later I got an actual colour TV which I still have but that's a whole other story.
Enjoyed you on QAF, loved you on Cagney and Lacey.
    Thanks so much.

  23. Hello Sharon,
I'm 29 and have been watching you since I was 8 or 9 years old when "Cagney & Lacey" was on CBS. I have enjoyed the series in reruns and in all of the episode I have taped through the years and the reunions in the 90's that brought you and Tyne back together - I look forward to the DVD release, it's about time, and to Barney's book. It is with equal passion I say how much "Queer as Folk" touched me as a gay man and as a fan of good dramatic television. There are only a handful of shows that have touched me the way C&L and Q as F did and I want to thank you for those efforts and tell you I am excited to hear of your new series which just sold. I just got "The State Within" from Netflix and am looking forward to watching it.
I am glad to hear you are recovering nicely and look forward to keeping up on things through the new site. Thanks for being so candid with your fans and keep up the good work!

  24. Hi Sharon

I can't actually believe that you may read this message from little ole me, one of your many UK fans!

I started watching C&L when I was 14, I loved it then and love it now! I recently managed to get on 'ebay' Volume 1, Season 1, with 9 episodes on, and am thorougly enjoying watching each episode again! I usually try and wait till my young son & husband are asleep or at school/work so I can watch with no distractions.

Have reserved my copy of Barney's book and can't wait to read, can totally understand (as a married woman myself why you choose not to read it) although I am sure you will be tempted to in time!!

In the UK, as I discovered on this excellent long-awaited website, ITV3 are showing all episodes of C&L from the beginning so I can hopefully enjoy all over again!

When you come to London next year, I hope I will be in position to come & see your play as I am sure will be great.

    Take Care, Lesley x

  25. Hi Sharon

Never in my wildest dreams did I think a. that I'd be blogging b. be blogging you! Great news on the dvd release, after years of pestering people and countless internet searches I can't get over that all I have to do is click a few buttons and stalk the postman -happy days! Thankyou for providing us all with such great entertainment over the years, it's an absolutely timeless show ( well apart from some of the outfits!). Growing up in Ireland there was very little in the way of entertainment until you lot came along with your high speed foot chases and kick ass humour! Christine Cagney is a fantastic character and you have made her into a true tv icon. Did you base her on anyone in particular or is there alot of your own personality traits in her? Do you have any plans to do any publicity for the dvd release in Ireland or the UK? I can't believe this site exists, it's great to hear that life is good with you and that you've other projects on the go, good luck with them! I look forward to your updates, I've a nasty feeling already that my job is going to be taking a back seat, I'm quite sure my students are capable of teaching themselves if they just put their minds to it! Eagerly awaiting the next blog.

  26. Sharon,

I have waited so long for the DVD and it was my gift to myself for finishing radiation for breast cancer and the DVD came out about a week later so what a wonderful treat for me.
I am already for the next year's season. What it has done for me while healing is more than I can say.
I was in my mid 30's when the show was aired and watched it every week, a great move for women. And I have enjoyed both of the roles played by yourself and Tyne Daily. You played off of each other so well. And the story lines were always interesting with care and laughter with a touch of seriousness a good blend of the all the best!
So thank you for the gift both of you gave me now at 57 to feel young and youthful and helps me to move one.

  27. I was, and still am an avid fan of Cagney and Lacey. I would like to ask Sharon, if possible, about the clothes she wore in the series. She wore great clothes, and colours. Were they her own choosing, or chosen for her? They still look great in the re-runs. From Kingfisher, England.
